The first sentence of the Gene Sloan article says it all. "Bad Boy". I don't blame Carnival at all for dropping the Cougar cruise. They've been trying for years to shed their image from the 70's of being the "party boat". Which is a misnomer today.
I agree. Something happened on or with that cruise that made Carnival decide not to repeat it. Either the image it portrayed or the happenings on the cruise itself were not up to the image that CCL is trying to obtain. I just thought it was funny that the story was even considered news worthy.

I heard it was because it didn't fit their Family image. However, I've yet to go on a Carnival cruise that didn't at least have a few cougars on the prowl. Of course, I am no longer a cub.

I beg to differ
On my last caribbean cruise on RCCL I got bored and went back to carnival, for me RCCL is a more lay low cruise line.
I can tell you this
I actually noted that the party flavor of Carnival have gone down during this last few years and the company have adopted a new family fun idea but I'm ok with it and I consider carnival a new kind of "family party" company and also I can still party all night long and dance the night away without any regrets...
Carnival will always be the Fun Ships. Heck, they invented the concept. They've just changed what they consider to be Fun for reputation purposes I guess.
This was a perfect media decision for them to make. It got on the news and takes them one step further in getting away from the "Party Boat" image that they have been trying to shake for decades now.
