When the new pier and Mahogany Bay beach facilities open at Roatan, passengers will be able to use a chair-lift to go from pier to beach. Read more here
Interesting. Well, we should be able to see it next June on our Dream cruise. I wish is was open for our Valor cruise last month, but it was not. At least I'll be able to have a "before/after" opinion of the new facilities.

It looks to me like another example of the Wal-Mart scooter effect. People will do anything to avoid walking. Looking at those pictures, it seems that the only safety device is a small diameter metal bar over the lap. I hope parents hold on to their offspring. 67 ft. is a long fall (even if you are just travelling along at a little over a brisk 2 mph).
When I first saw the report and the photos my immediate reaction was "no thanks, I'll walk". I wonder if they'll require signed waivers to use it? What if someone in a scooter demands to use it?
Thanks for posting this Dave! I'm so glad the Grand Opening is finally near. Not all that long ago it was up in the air about the plans being completed any time soon. I was thrilled to report about it going ahead with progress a while back in this thread. I'm not all that thrilled about the chair lift addition to the transportation hub. I'm scared of heights. I guess I'll be walking. I am very happy about this facility finally coming to fruition for cruisers to Roatan.
I think it should be intresting. We walked alot, a whole lot, last month while on the Glory. the piers seemed so long and I am not as young as I want to be. I would have gladly used it at any pier we stopped at last month. If I think it is safe I will try it... time will tell.
