We are going to Progresso and Cozumel and I have already booked the excursion to Chichen Itza. I hope this will be a fun cruise. Just wanted to know any tips for on board. Want a quiet cruise as I work 2 jobs and my husband pulls 15 hr days. Any suggestions on getting the most out of our cruise and has anybody sailed on the Carnival Elation?
You will like Chichen Itza, but it is VERY hot so dress appropriately. Bus ride can be somewhat frightening; they drive very very fast there, though I have heard they have been forced to slow down a bit. You will enjoy driving through the small towns on your way to the sites.
I have been on the Elation and it is a nice ship. As far as quiet goes, well there are always those who drink too much, but you should be able to find peace and quiet if you sun on the upper deck. The lower deck gets filled with people waiting for food and participating in contests.
Hope you have a balcony room - they are great and we slept every night with the door open. Loved listening to the waves. It was very relaxing.
Since this is your first cruise, you have no expectations, which is a good thing. At least you are away from home and work and that is always a good thing! Enjoy.
Hi prissycm, welcome to Cruise-Chat. Congratulations on your up-coming cruise! Great Aunt has some good suggestions, however, I'll bet you'll be joining in on the activities on board. It sure sounds like you and your hubby deserve a break!!!!
We went to the Tulum ruins, it was quite an excursion, but well worth it. I hope you enjoy Chicen Itza, the trip to the ruins won't take you as long as the trip to Tulum.
You can find quiet places on board, and you can definitely relax at the beach. Make sure you try the chocolate melting cake at least once, it's fantastic. The Elation is a great ship, very easy to get around.
the relaxing vacation is on the lido deck at the stern , or one deck below at the serenity retreat...or the spa.
The Party is at the main pool area, and the casino...
Chichen Itza is fantastic, but it is true that it is very hot. I was there years ago in April and it was sweltering. There is very little shade. I recommend taking some bottled water in a backpack. They do have a small refreshment stand, but it can be a long walk depending on where you are in the park. We climbed to the top of the tallest pyramid, I'm not sure if they allow people to do that anymore. If they do, you should do it for the amazing pics you can get at the top.
As for cruise tips:even if you are not prone to motion sickness, bring some patches to put behind your ear. It is better to have them and not need them than to pay a higher price for them in the medical center. Also, and underwater camera is a must. I usually just get the cheap disposable ones, those are some of my favorite pics. Have a great time!

You have to use the BB code option for tickers to work here. HERE is a link to the instructions. If you need any help just let myself or any moderator know.
Yes, you will get hooked on cruising. It is the best vacation ever, in my and my wife's opinion. We are going on the Elation in October. Please write when you get back and let everyone know about your first experience cruising and about the Elation.
Every night look at the Carnival Capers and plan the activities for the next day. There are many things to do and some may over lap. Do everything you can. Everyone has their own idea of a good time and you will have to find yours.
The first day will overwhelm you. Some stuff is nothing more than a sales pitch such as the spa tour. I found the spa to be twice as much for one half less of service.
In your carry on bag be sure to have your bathing suit if you want to go to the pool right away and also all of your valuables and anything that you may need right away.
They will give you a paper as soon as you get on. Read it as it will tell you a lot of the activities. Most will go to the top deck for the buffet and wait for the cabin to open at !:00.
