The last Carnival cruise Oct 2009 there were a number of passengers that had unlimited drink cards for the bar. I was told it cost $40 per day. They were cruising as a group and were really getting their money worth. Don't think they ever got off the ship the whole 8 days.

Does anyone else have any more info on this?

I have not heard of this. There is the soda card but this is the first time I have seen a drink card. At $40 a day and considering a drink can run $7 to $8 each, it wouldn't take but 5 drinks to make that pay off. I don't drink that much every day but I am sure there are people that could (or would if they had already paid that much)

I wonder if it was something special Carnival arranged with their group?

I have heard of the drink card being offered to groups before, but not to passengers in general--and I think I can guess why!

Yes, it is only a group option to my knowledge. The last time I checked everyone in the group had to participate. I know a few people that would get their money's worth. http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...icon_smile.gif

It was a large group.

I know that a lot of families have reunions and yearly cruises. How many cabins have to be booked to be considered a group?

Cruise Fanatic 03-17-2010 07:41 PM

I believe that is an option for groups of 100 passengers or more.

Eight. Now the Drink Card option is only available to my knowledge for large groups as Cruise Fanatic noted in the previous post.

I don't know about Carnival, but I see that Celebrity has beverage packages - I looked in particular at the beer package for our cruise but decided we wouldn't be drinking enough to get out monies worth

If you are interested, I would call Carnival and ask...because I have heard that you only need 30 for this "drink card" group option.

but again EVERYONE must participate.

I can not imagine drinking $40 a day in booze...water, maybe..but not booze....

Well, with the prices they charge I've probably hit that mark a few times. http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...on_biggrin.gif
