I'm not to sure if this post has ever come up before but we are just wondering if there is a bank machine on board the ships? In case one doesn't have enough monies to settle ones on board account.?

canuckcrusiers - Nearly all the cruiselines sailing out of U.S. ports have equipped their ships with ATM machines- the fees to use them may be more than you usually pay. I don't believe I have cruised in the last several years on a major cruiseline and not had access to an ATM onboard.

Canuck
The fee for use was in the 5 dollar range. I believe the cruise lines also take checks, but I'm not certain if they can be drawn on banks outside the US.

Yes, they have ATMs. Here is a link to more info.

Here is a link to the check cashing policy. There is a fee. There is no fee for cashing Traveler's checks however.

The ATMs can also have spotty service, depending on the satellite signal. I wouldn't rely on having one available when you needed it.

Dear CDN Cruiser: Why rely on Bank machines when you can bring traveller cheques with you. Also, the cruise ship requires that you provide them with a credit card upon boarding. Believe you me, you won't be leaving the ship without settling your account. Either cash, traveller cheques or credit card - they do not care what you have as long as it is currency. Also, bear in mind too, if you need an ATM, most of the countries you will visit will have ATMs but you will be hit with nasty service charges. Cheers.

On a few cruises I've noticed the ATM machines were out of service by the end of the cruise. I've never used one. I take traveler's checks for cash purposes. If I don't need them all I just deposit them back at the bank.

I have used the ATMs a few times, the fees are high and they run out of money, like Dwayne says. If you're not taking a credit card, I highly suggest you bring more than enough traveller's cheques to cover. They will not charge any fees for them. It really is better to use a credit card. Debit cards, they place holds on your bank account and can take a few weeks to get the holds taken off. Best wishes!
