Yes I have been in one of those cabins (on the Spirit which is the same class of ship) They call them "french door balconies" which means you can open your balcony door but the railing is right there and the life boat is in front of you. You can look under it and maybe over the top, but mostly you have no view at all. There are some of those where you are between lifeboats where you can see out but you are rolling the dice booking one of those cabins. We got upgraded from an inside to one so we didn't complain as it still allowed us to have natural light in the cabin and get fresh air if we wanted. But don't get one thinking you are getting a balcony on the cheap and only have to suffer looking "over" a lifeboat.

We have booked a cruise on the Conquest for June 2010. Our travel agent booked a balcony guarantee because he has had great luck in getting upgrades when booking early. Should I be worried that we will end up behind a lifeboat but paying full price for a balcony view?

no. The Conquest does not have these types of cabins. The lifeboats on below the balconies. Even on the Spirit class ships they designate the "French Door Balcony" cabins as a different category. So if you booked a balcony guarantee then you have already paid for a category above those. They fall into a oceanview category

Thank you
I am booked on the miricle cat 7A, which is what I think you are talking about. The Carnvial TA sent us a photo before we booked and we could easily see over the lifeboat. If I knew how to post it I still have the photo. Can someone tell me how to upload the photo?
Cabin 4122 4132 4140 4148 are all pretty good. Then on the other side is 4123 4131 4133 4141 and 4149 they all have a pretty good view as well. I think these french door cabins are a bargain for what you get. And they are quite large. I am sure you will be satisfied with one of these if you don't care about a balcony, which I don't.

Just some clarification; the lifeboats are on Decks 4 and 5. Deck 4 has the 4K category (Inside Classified) cabins with the french doors. Deck 5 has the 7A Balcony cabins that CruiseDad's picture link shows.
We always ask for oceanview obstructed when we cruise; good way to get a sliver of sunlight at least for a lower price! We had the french doors on the Miracle. They opened just a teeny bit. We didn't mind the obstruction at all. It's nice just to be able to kind of see outside and see whether it's night or day.
