shuttle service galveston

Yikes I have spent 2 days on line and a couple of evenings on telephone, trying to get a shuttle fron houston bush to galveston day before our cruise, are those people nuts there are 7 of us going and they wanted 175.00 to 270.00 to transport us to galveston, then I called a cab co. they wanted 125.00 for one person so then I got a bright idea one way rental car, but had trouble on the online reservations with all the major players till I fell into the enterprise web site they do one way rental to galveston, I got a mini van for us for 106.00 and we will have a car to use for the whole day, and will be able to drop off my group at the port and return the car, and take either a cab or they may have a shuttle service, in galveston, this is someting new from what the rep told me, so if you are coming in a day or two early renting a car looks to be the deal if you have a group of 7, or large family the rental was 64.00 and drop off 40.00 and you have 200 mile leadway after that 15 cents a mile and of course gas we have it is going to save us over 100.00 and we will not be at the cab or shuttle service mercy as they also limit your luggage too. I did book our return to airport through carnival as we are leaving directly from port to a/p the fares were only 13.00 each one way, so I highly recommend anyone to book your return through carnivals transportation and if you come in on day of cruise use carnival transportation it is well worth it the limo and shuttle services are way out of line with thier prices not to mention cabs

We just got back from a cruise on the Conquest.
We flew into Houston ( Bush) a couple of days before the cruise also but we still used the carnival transportation. We just went back to the airport on the day of the cruise and and met the shuttle to Galveston. Worked very well

I thought about that to, but since we are staying at hotel in galveston 1 mile from port and traveling with kids and god knows how much luggage and 5 adults it would not be worth me paying 500.00 for transportation from hotel and back to the airport for a 13.00 fare for each of us, I did book the carnival fare on disbarking day, as we did the same thing in tampa we went one day early took cab to hotel it was 30.00 one way for 3 of us not really that bad, and a cab to port next morning we were 2 miles away another 12.00 it all work out, my point is they are gaugeing pax who need to go to galveston, you would think someone, like the cruise ships would accomadate the pax the day before cruise with a inexpensive shuttle service, well I am happy with my decision to rent the mini van for the day as I will have to return to airport later that day to pick up another member of family, and we will be able to sight see or run to the supermarket or whatever with the van. thanks for your imput Fran
