On the Carnival web site, the following is written:
"All parents with children 5 years old and under will receive a complementary beeper or phone on the first day of the cruise to be used throughout the voyage."
My questions is the following: can anyone use the beepers or only the Camp Carnival staff (i.e. can our 11 year-old daugter beep us if required?). If the answer is no, can we rent a beeper so that the kids can contact us? We don't need walkie-talkies, but we would like for our daughter to be able to beep us should we be out in the evening while she babysits her three brothers in our cabin. (!!!)
Are there any other options (other than walkie-talkies) that you can suggest? Thanks.

I don't think the pagers on the ship work the way you think. You don't dial a phone number to call the pager, they work like the pager they give you when you are waiting at a restaurant. The person wanting to page someone presses a button on a console.
Is there a reason you don't want to use the walkie talkies? A lot of them have a "pager" mode that should do what you want. If you set the radio's security code and set it to vibrate you will not disturb the other passengers. With the security code you will not hear the other people talking on that channel.
I agree with Larry in Miami. Get Walkie Talkies for each member of your family and use them in a way that enables all your family members, no matter what comes their way.
Just my opinion.
