Just got my docs in the mail today, and i was wondering how much the "hold" will be on my checking account for my sail and sign. I want to be sure to leave enough in there. Im on the Conquest on Sept 11th if that makes a difference. Anyone know? 300.00? 500.00?
rumor I also heard was if you use your bank account debit card you will not be able to use it anywhwere else as they put a hold on the entire account, so you will not be able to use it anywhere else, I always pay off a low limit credit card, and use it for the sail and sign, also you can give the cash I do beive it is a 200.00 minimum, when you recieve your documents there is a booklet in with your tickets that goes over most of the rules and limitations and dos and don'ts
Wow, I sure am glad to see that I am not the only person who has to think about this kinda thing!! I have been on 4 cruises and no matter how much I swear I am going to hold back on the sail 'n sign bill, I always end up with a long account statement at the end of the cruise!! They just make it sooo easy to sign on that little line and have this really pretty drink! I am booked on the Spirit in Oct from HON to Ensendada and these ideas of bringing your own wine are looking very good to me. I read somewhere in Carnival's info that it is okay as long as it is brought on embarkation and is a reasonable amount. Also, they used the words "fine wine"----------I assume that means not in a box!!! LOL
I decided to use cash on our last cruise and put $500 on the card when we got there. Well we got to our room and realized that they do prepaid gratuities and that took up almost that whole amount(traveling with 5) so back I went to put more cash down. You use it for your excursions and if you did not book them before you left they are anywhere from $50 to $150 so $200 isn't going to get you very far! I took $1000 for my sign and sail card and STILL ended up putting about $750 on a credit card! Hope this helps

OK, just talked to a Carnival rep, and they said "200.00" I dont know if they understood what i was asking or not. Is the money automatically charged to my checking account (i.e. as a debit) RIGHT THEN? (embarkation) I just wanted to know because my paycheck will be deposited while im on the cruise, so im sure i will have enough in there when they charge it the actual amount, i just want to be sure to have enough in there to cover the hold.....see? Am i making any sense?
According to my carnival hand book there is a 100.00 to 350.00 hold on your checking account depending on the duration(days) of the cruise the hold will restrict the available cash in your checking account all charges will be billed at the end of your cruise they do put a hold on the debit card, for the deposit amount for your sail and sign, if you exceed your deposit additional hold will go on the account, so if you need any cash you may or may not be able to withdraw they do have atm's on board so you could aways withdraw cash and give the cash if you want to do a cash pay off and not use your credit card at the end of your cruise also most ships have access on your room tv so you can keep track of what you spend each day if you want to pay the bill everyday or just check what you have spent I recommend checking it everyday as Once I was double charged for Bingo, and you may get lucky in casino and want to pay it off which I did on 2 cruises the 3rd and 4th day out. happy cruising can not wait for my 7th cruise in jan. on the conquest out of nola wahoooo
ps your gratudies will be put on your account right off the top unless you prepaid with your booking its 10.00 per day per person in cabin, I have them taken off as I prefer to tip everyone in person, I feel better giving them the envelope at the end of our cruise, I save the cash for them instead of having it go on the sail and sign
