We've been on both and totally enjoyed both. I do think the RCI is a step above Carnival, however, Carnival certainly delivers and their prices are reasonable. We've seen great shows on both cruise lines. The activities on board both lines were fun. I wouldn't hesitate to book a cruise on either line. IMHO RCI is a little more elegant. Princess is my favorite, so far, but would book on either of your choices. Best wishes!

In my opinion, the entertainment on the Voyager Class Royal Caribbean ships is second to none. Especially the ice shows, they are simply amazing.

There is no way to compare any ship to a Voyager class ship. No other ships have a promenade deck or iceshow, which are awesome.
My wife and I have no desire to cruise with any other cruise line other then Royal Caribbean. Our next cruise will be number 30.

As you can see from our signature we have tried one or two lines........... http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...n_rolleyes.gif
We firmly believe that as long as you carry with you your sense of humor and your spirit of adventure, you will have a great time. All cruise lines are not all things to all people. Everyone has preferences and for very personal reasons. When we shop a cruise it doesn't really matter what line we take as long as the ship is not too old, the itinerary appeals to us and the price is right! We just love to cruise!

I have only been on two cruises in my life. I have been on Royal Caribbeans Sovereign/Seas and a year later, Carnival's Inspiration.

It is hard for me to say which one was better. It seems if they were evenly matched.

I did like the food better on Carnival. It seeemed as if it was fresher and more attention was given to it's presentation. I also liked all that Pizza and Ice Cream they had in the Lido Cafteria.

However, I was on the Sovereign, just one week prior to her major multimillion dollar renovations. So I missed out on those famous national-chain restaurants she now has on her Lido Deck: Johnnie Rocket's, Sorrentos, Ben&Jerry's.

I liked the Inspiration better than the Sovereign in terms of ammenities. My cabin on the Inspiration was way bigger (167 ft2 as opposed to the Sovereign's 115 ft2). I liked the interior decor of the Inspiration better than the Sovereign. Some people seemed not to like Carnival's interiors claiming they look like an over-the-top glitzy vegas casino look. I did not get that impression. However, the Sovereign is an older ship (built in '88) as opposed to the Inspiration being built in '96. Also, allot of the Sovereign was off limits during my cruise to to some of the renovations were already underway.

As for the entertainment, both ships had really great entertainment and very talented performers. However, I would give the edge to the Sovereign. It seemed as if they had a more classy form of entertainment and made more of an effort. I really didn't care for Carnival's mascot in their shows. It just seemed a little cheesy for Carnival to do self-promotion during the shows.

When it comes down to the overall expierience, I would say I had a better time on my second cruise (aboard the Inspiration). Although it is totaly subjective. Also other factors not related to the differences in the cruiselines, could have been involved: it was my second cruise so I was better prepared, the ports of call were different (better?), the Inspiration was not underconstruction during the cruise. So like I said, it was a close match and a subjective opinion of mine. If you were on both cruises you may have had totally different expieriences and subsequent opinions. Either way, cruising is what you make of it, if you are looking for a good time you will find it. The same is true with looking for a bad time.

I think it depends on what your needs and expectations are. If price or itinerary is important, Carnival might be for you. If ship decor or activities are your thing, Royal Carrib., is for you.

Since I have been on both CCL and RCCL, I have to agree with Sonny re: RCCL, especially the Voyager class ships. That promenade rocks!! The ice shows were infact awesome as he stated. Food, I thought, was better on CCL. Cabin was definitely bigger on CCL as well. For my vote, I would say look at the Voyager class ships on RCCL. They truly are incredible.

We cruised on RCI's Rhapsody in 8-04 and Carnival's Conquest in 8-05, and found the one distinguishing difference was in entertainment. We thought the Rhapsody's was much better. From the normal magicians and jugglers to the headliner - John Davidson, where the Conquest had no headliner.

Sonny V 07-15-2006 10:06 PM

The Rhapsody of the Seas is a "Vision" class ship. An upgrade from the "Vision" class would be to the "Radiance" class ship. An upgrade from the "Radiance" class would be the "Voyager" class ships. This is good information if you want to compare "apples" to "apples". Everyone is trying to compare cruise lines to cruises lines and ships to ships. As I have said before, you can't compare a "Voyager" class ship to any other ship on the seas. The "Voyager" class ships are absolutely awesome. It doesn't matter if you like smaller ships or the biggest ships, the "Voyager" class ships are the ultimate. Enough said.

Thank you Billy in Florida for agreeing with me about the "Voyager" class ships.
