Hello everyone,

This will be our 1st cruise. I have been reading many reviews and looking at various site for best prices for a 7 days cruise somtime at the end of November to early December before the holidays.

Any suggestion on the best ship leaving from Miami, San Juan or Barbados would be appreciated. We are based in Grenada (Caribbean Island - next to Trinidad & Tobago)and are trying to board as close to home so as to avoid very expensive airfares, but at the same time do not want to cruise on a ship that we would not enjoy much.

We are looking to have a much fun as possible and I am thinking that the newer ships would have more activities like water park etc. What are your thoughts?

Any suggestions for a 1st time cruiser would be appreciated.

Thanks much!

Hello Nafe, welcome to Cruise-Chat!
My advice is just in the line of what you're thinking—avoiding unnecessary expenses. Because it's your first cruise, you wouldn't know the difference between the different ships; and you'll be in awe no matter what. I've been on 50 cruises and just about every ship in the Royal Caribbean fleet. I find just as much time can be had no matter if it's a small ship or one of the super mega ships. I would just get the best deal I could on any of the major cruise lines. Good luck, and let us know how you make out.

Hi Nafe, welcome to Cruise-Chat. We absolutely love your island. Flamingo Bay was one of the best snorkels we've been on and the Grand Anse Beach is beautiful! So is the rain forest. There are quite a few ships that sail out of San Juan, and I know Princess has cruises out of Barbados. I know you'll love Princess, Carnival or Royal Caribbean. We've also enjoyed Costa, but I think they only sail out of Ft. Lauderdale. Best wishes!

Hi Nafe, Welcome to Cruise-Chat!

I can narrow down the Carnival choices for San Juan and Barbados for you. The Victory is the only ship from either port. Good luck, and welcome aboard.

Thanks guys for your response. I am still surfing around to get the best rates from either Royal or Carnival. Any suggestions on where I should look for great deals?

I have not looked into Princess cruise line but maybe I should since it leaves from Barbados.

Sonny, I agree with you that no matter which ship I choose I would have a blast.

Penny, I am glad to hear that you love Grenada, it really is a beautiful island. Come visit again!!!

I really appreciate all of the responses. I would welcome any advise or suggestions on where to get the best deals on cruises.

Thanks again!

Princess, Carnival, and Royal are offering some great deals on-line. Each of their websites have sections (tabs) for special deals. If you're using a travel agent, they'll know the best promotions. If not, check on-line first, then call the cruise line directly and ask them if they have any unposted special deals. I know Royal was offering a 7-day from San Juan starting at $549/pp, but can't remember the dates. Princess has a 14 day starting at $1399/pp from Barbados for April and October. We'll be back to Grenada, no doubt about that!

It also worth mentioning that you will get the same price from a travel agent as you would if you call and of the main lines directly. But with the travel agent you get the added benefits of someone knowledgeable in cruising and can answer your questions. Be careful with dealing with the online Cruise Discounts sites... I would stick to a travel agent you can talk with or calling the cruise line directly for your first cruise.
