I am wondering about the evening port stop the Victory makes in San Juan. I find it very interesting that the ship is in port from 5:00 PM until midnight.

Having been to SJ before, this doesn't really bother me, but I'm wondering why Carnival would having an evening port call. What is there to do? Do the shops in Old San Juan stay open?

Interestingly, we'll be there on Halloween, so who knows what to expect that evening!!

I've done this. The 5PM port call is basically because that's when the ship will be able to get there.

Yes, the shops were still open. The Rum manufacturers stores were open for business with samples and purchases. There's time for dinner and parties if you wish to do that.

Being there for Halloween might be interesting. I'm not sure if they do anything big for Halloween or not, but there could be some interesting activities going on.

Casino and nightclubbing excursions are the primary draw of an evening call to San Juan.

My family did the Carnival Victory December 2000, and the stop in San Juan was crap. It was dark, nothing was hardly open, as for photo ops, good luck, Old San Juan Church is difficult to shoot in the night time. Although, if you are going to San Juan in the summer, there is more than enough light to get you thru past 8:30pm. This was the ONLY downside to this cruise, was the night time stop in San Juan. If you have kids, not many places to take them, lots of bars and adult restaurants, as in there is a HOOTERS there. Better luck enjoying what light you have and then getting on the ship and plan out with your family what you will do the next da.

just got back. We took the kayak excursion which was good. Other wise you walk accross the street and shop for rum. Walking around was no big deal as many places were closed and it rained. Try the baraccdi rum tour
