Cas, They are probably offering the "Endless Summer" promotion that has upgrades this coming week. It is applicable on new bookings only and has blackout dates, and a ton of restrictions. They are usually a little flexible on the new booking part for people this far out of penalty.

Did you have a PVP, or did you call General Reservations?

Dwayne
What is a PVP??

Here is what I do;

Well First I call 1-800- carnival (general) and ask the person who answer about it mostly the same when I did the booking, then after he said he cannot give me the upgrade I call the person who really make my booking and he told me the same.

the way I see it I am so far from my cruise that I am considering to cancel it and re-book it with a travel agent because they are giving me better prices than carnival
What really escapes my mind is they are giving better offers to new cruisers than past guest...

macmom111, I love that you got the upgrade. Even more than that I love that you have the right attitude about recieving it. You would not believe the number of people who get such an upgrade and instead of being excited about it as you are and I would be they complain that they didn't get upgraded to an oceanview or balcony! There is a belief out there that upgrades are given out like candy and if you don't get one you should be disappointed. It's obviously not the case and you have made my day with your post recognizing and appreciating this opportunity. Thanks for that!

Cheers, Neil

Caz, There are many times agencies have better rates or promotions available than the cruise lines direct. This is not just CCL but with most lines. There are a lot of reasons this happens and I won't go into all the various senarios. You don't have to cancel your booking to get the rate or promotion you've seen. You can call the agency that has the better offer and verify the details. If it's what you want and indeed a better promotion, simply call CCL and ask them to transfer your booking to that agency, have a name of who you spoke with at that agency so that person knows to expect a fax and how to reach you when they get it. The agency will apply the promotion to your current booking, move it into their group or whatever needs to be done to get the benefits you want and you're all set. Be aware that some online agencies have booking fees (many have no such fees) and other things in the fine print. Be sure to ask about any fees that they may have before transferring the booking.

Princess is one of the lines that is wonderful about checking to see if their rates, onboard credits and other promotions are the best available if you ask them at the time of a booking. If there is an agency out their that has better promos or benefits than they can offer direct, they will refer you right to that agency and tell you how to get the better promo when you call. CCL is not quite so free with such info or at directing you to the best source if asked. They leave it to the client to find the best offer but will transfer it if you do find something better.

thanks for the info I'll check if there is an option like that for me.

Just a note:

I am not getting greedy I will cruise with carnival even without the upgrade and still I KNOW I have a good deal,

PLEASE CARNIVAL DON'T BAN ME FOR ASKING!!!

I am even afraid they will ban me from their cruiseline just for asking it,
since RCCl started banning people because of bad comments on the internet forums I am always nervous to make a comment and that the company will get it wrong calling me to say " sorry sir you cannot travel with us anymore"

but I only ask because I think it was a fair question that's all

Cas, no worries about banning. Those are extreme cases. The only folks that would have to be concerned about such extreme action are those who are a constant source of major problems and headaches for a cruise line. Those who use online sites and blogs to try and destroy a cruise line reputation distorting facts, spread rumors or lies, threaten lawsuits over frivilous things constantly and try to start petitions against a line should worry. Seeking the lowest rate for a cruise or even reporting a poor experience or the need for better guest relations efforts is a totally different thing. You're not one of the whiners, mooches or generally un-pleasable people who would ever be unwelcome on any line.

A PVP is a Personal Vacation Planner that works only for Carnival.

I have used the same one for many many years.

The good side is that he watches for price decreases for me and automatically reduces my cruise cost if before the final payment or gets me OBC if after the final payment.

The bad side is that if I ever want to cruise a cruise line other than Carnival...he can't help me.

Cas, Don't worry about Carnival banning you for asking questions, or comments about something. When you mentioned this to me privately I thought you were kidding. No worries!

The reason I asked about the PVP vs. General Reservations, is for the exact reason that LHP gave you.

As Neil noted, I wouldn't cancel the reservation and re-book. I would transfer it if necessary. I have changed my reservation twice, and kept my same booking number and booking date to avoid the higher fuel supplement.

I would call them and ask for a PVP to contact you. Good Luck!

Dwayne
