I think Andrea that the documents are in the name of the traveler and can't be given to anyone else.

Thank you all for the quick response. I hope she can get it all figured out. She has been off work for 1 1/2 weeks and tried to come back but still isn't completely well. I couldn't believe she didn't get the insurance...last year they had booked a trip to CABO....and the hurricane hit. The flight wouldn't leave the airport and they went to Las Vegas instead. You think they would have learned!

A'ndrea- I would go in a minute if I thought I could!!!! She'd kill me - and so would my family.

I hope it works out for her...and thanks again everyone. I just thought I would ask around to see what everyone thought.

Neil,

I know how those medical bills can easily get overwhelming. Prior to your joining us....my wife was in a major vehicle accident last September. A 15 mile flight in a medical helicopter....$10,000. Surgical Trauma ICU - $12,000 per day, for 30 days. I could go on and on. It is not fun to have various medical providers tell you that you owe over a million dollars, and they take Visa or Mastercard.

We do not get the insurance offered by the cruise lines, but we ALWAYS get insurance - by comparing policies at insuremytrip.com.

Hi Dave,

I had a similar situation with my wife several years ago. She's fine now and I hope yours is as well. CSA Insurance is one of the choices at the site you mentioned. They are in my opinion the best out there. 100% coverage, $250,K med transportation, pre-existing condition coverage, and they pay. I've never had a single client ever complain about coverage they purchased with them. There may be others out there as good, I just don't know.

The only hitch is for older clients they may not be the lowest cost. Their coverage is not only cost based, its also age based. At 55+ they are sometimes a little pricey.

Cheers, Neil

By the way Baby Doll and Michelle... The docs can be changed. Even if its too late to get new ones you can have a passenger replaced. Simply call your T/A or if you booked direct call Carnival and let them know you have a name/passenger change to make. They will inform you of a $50. name change fee but that's it.

Many of the lines charge nothing for such a change but Carnival (or any of thir group) is not one of those.

Michelle, if your friend definately can't go see if there is someone, friend or family member who could and would want to go in her place. It's far better than losing every dollar and nobody getting the pleasure of the cruise.

They are going to penalize everything but the tax for a cancellation within two weeks of the sailing date.

Happy sailing, Neil

Michele, you've gotten some good answers above. I hope your friend will be alright, and I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you all again for all the information. I was trying to get her the information so she could cover all her basis. They did contact their TA and of course...as stated...too late to change. She is going to go. If anything they will cancel all those "active" shore excursions and just have a nice RELAXING time on board the ship.

Dave - I have read some of the topics that hinted you had had some things to deal with over the past few years with you wife...and I too went through a very horrible accident in 1999. My husband and just started a new job in Oct 1998...our medical went into effect Jan 1, 1999...and I was hit by a drunk driver on Feb. 3 1999. I was airlifted from in front of my home and spent two months in a hospital 2 hours from my home/family/4 yr old son. Horrible experience...and only 33 days from having to have paid 326,000 (approx.) YIKES...that will keep me from complaining every week when I see how much money they charge for medical insurance out of my husbands check. Not one word from me!!!!

And I may be new at this...but I have read more than one post that convinced me...ALWAYS GET THE INSURANCE!!!!

Just a year ago Carnival gave a 50% credit for my Father in Law, My mother in law had a stroke. We booked through Carvinal and our TA was very good, sent a bunch of paper work and we had to send a ton of documentation and notorized stuff but did get the credit in the form of a Booking code. It worked too, He sailed with us seveal weeks ago and used it just fine. So it is worth a try, but don't expect it to be easy.
