I am planning to book a cruise on Carnival Spirit to Alaska. What are the obstructed view balcony staterooms like? Are they very obstructed? Someone told me to get a room between the lifeboats. Has anyone stayed in this type of stateroom on the Carnival Spirit?
Nancy.. Yes, we were upgraded to one of these obstructed views. They are really not a balcony.. they are called "French Door Oceanview" rooms. They are behind the life boats and while you get an opening balcony door, the balcony is about 8 inches deep before the railing is there. You can almost reach out and touch the lifeboat. You can look down and see water or up, but if you are getting this cabin for a view, don't waste your money. We had booked an interior cabin and were upgraded to this, so we were happy. But if I had booked an Oceanview expecting to see something, then I would have been upset that they put us in the cabin. IF you get very luck and mangage to get a cabin between two lifeboats, then you could maybe see out, but you will still be looking through the boat cranes and cables...
Again, if you thinking this is a cheap way to a balcony cabin, its not. If you can get upgraded into one from an interior, its a good deal.

If you are going to take one of these staterooms on a Spirit class ship get one that is between the life boats, like4132, 4140, 4148, and so on .Same for the other side. The view will be limeted, but not blocked. Tom

My son had an obstructed view on the Spirit for an Alaskan Cruise. As he was expecting to stay in the crew quarters with his sister so this was a hugh upgrade and he loved it. When he speaks of the trip now, the stateroom is not an issue either way, The glaciers, the crabbing and fishing, the underage drinking in Canada were the highlights. I think he would take the same cabin again, especially over an inside one. He likes fresh air.

Thanks for any information you can provide.
Nancy
I was never in this room, but my friend was. your down-view will be obstructed by the top of the lifeboat, but you will be able to see out clearly.
And yes, it does have a balcony. Your room will be the room ABOVE the 5A rooms the some of the other posters were discussing. I always take the 5A and I'm very happy with it, the 7A you are taking is MUCH nicer.
