I'm not the Officer that Lisa is referring to. I can say it is typical for decisions to be made shortly before the cruise as well for Carnival. And for good reason. The storm tracking is much better than ever, it is still not an exact science though.
Carnival Conquest: The September 14 cruise will now depart Monday September 15, and be shortened to 6 days. Ports of call are Grand Cayman and Cozumel. Pax who elect to sail will receive a 15% discount of the cruise fare, plus a 25% discount on a future 3- to 7-day cruise (see link above for more information and conditions). If the port of Galveston does not reopen Monday, Carnival Conquest will depart Tuesday September 15 on a 5-dayer. If that turns out to be the case, pax will be notified by Carnival by 7:00 pm CDT on Sunday.
Carnival Ecstasy: The September 15 cruise is expected to depart on schedule; yet if the port of Galveston does not reopen Monday, the cruise will depart Tuesday on a 4-day sailing. Pax will be notified of any changes by 7:00 pm CDT on Sunday.
On behalf of the Cruise-Chat staff, our thoughts are with those in the affected areas.
I can say this about Carnival... they are certainly keeping us updated.
The latest update gives more specifics on the current sailing of Carnival Conquest, which left Galveston on September 7. She will stay in Cozumel through Saturday (tomorrow). Expect further updates on this one.
