I didn't think about this because I don't smoke, BUT my Mother does.I told her she could quit she didn't like that response too well. Is there a place designated on the ship or does she have to wait until we get into port?

Yes there are places on the ship to smoke. On Carnival the casino and the cigar bar, one side of the lido deck and if you have a balcony you can smoke out there. Is she sharing a cabin with you or does she have one of her own?? I believe there is a couple other areas on the ship where she can smoke.

I heard that on the middle level decks that contain cabins only, you can go out on the small rear decks. The smoke immediately travels away from the ship. Does anyone know if this is true?

Suzy- Well, yes its ture that if you can stand on the aft of the ship the smoke will travel directly off the ship... BUT where you can do this is going to change from ship type to ship type. Most of the newer CCL ships have balcony cabins on most of the decks except for the dinning room deck. So the Lido deck and higher are probably the only places you can get to the aft of the ship. On the Fantasy class ships there are areas where you can do what you describe but its been a long time since being on one of those, so I can't say for sure which decks those are.

It's not fun to be on your balcony and have someone over you throw their cigarette over the rail. These kinds of "cruise missiles" are unnecessary.
P.S. You can always try to bring back the Carnival Paradise.

Your Mom will have plenty of places to smoke.

The Capers (daily Newspaper) lists the Designated Smoking Areas daily. They do not change. They simply list them every day as a reminder.

On the Fascination, she will be able to smoke in the casino, piano bar, disco, small lounge (can't remember the name) that is mid-ship on Promenade, one side of the pool on Lido and one side of the bar at the AFT of the ship (right above the dining room).

All the designated smoking areas did was stop a smoker from walking from venue to venue with a lit cigarette to protect the health of children.

If she does smoke in the cabin, she is not allowed to "open the door" and air out the cabin, because there is no smoking in the hallways (again to protect the children present).

I have written to Carnival about doing a better job of marking the non-smoking areas because people are on vacation (and they don't normally break the rules for the heck of it) and are in a vacation state of mind.

The one nonsmoking spot that usually gets violated the most is the area on the other side of the casino bar. While there is smoking right at the bar, across the walkway is nonsmoking. But those little white "no smoking signs" on the tables (IMHO) do not cut it.
There needs to be better signage.

Have a great cruise!!

I'm not a smoker. My sister-in-law is. I'm surprised that they allow smoking in the cabins. If people smoke in their non-balcony cabins, it's going to be noticable in the hallways.
In the photograph of the Holiday it appears that the Empress deck has an aft open-air deck. This is the rear area I was referring to.
