I think Costa Cruise lines should take a very close look at the Concordia Class Ships.
Thanks. I dearly hope that the same design and material shortcomings on Splendor are not replicated on the other Concordia class ships. We'll know if Costa quietly starts putting them in shipyards for "modifications".
I will not be surprised if some type of civil enforcement action is taken against Carnival by the U.S. government. I also expect to see lawsuits aplenty against Fincantieri, the vendor that serviced the CO2 system, and some careers ending all over the place. The bottom line is it appears either nobody walked down the system during and after installation, or it was pencil-whipped on the system operability documentation. If this type of thing happened at a nuclear power plant, the NRC would likely launch a criminal investigation and turn the results over to the U.S. Attorney for prosecution.
Not to mention the inspectors that performed the last inspection. Those issues were sever enough that they should have been easily spotted. You could suspect that the ship of the same design will have similar issues, so I certainly hope Costa inspects all of theirs and gets the problems resolved.

Considering other lines have had their issues....It seems Carnival gets the worst of the media attention, compared to other lines....or is that just my imagination?
Yesit does seem that way but when your as big as they are more people know the name so it becomes bigger news. So far I think Carnival has handled the issue as well as they could have been expected to or better. The reality of the cruise contract is that they could have not done anything for the passengers and legally gotten away with it but hey did the right things and went out of their way to make it up to their customers.

I agree that Carnival went above and beyond for their passengers; but it wasn't entirely altruistic: considering the media microscope they were under, they really had no choice.
I think Carnival has also received more attention lately because they've had more stuff happen to them. It wasn't too long ago that Royal Caribbean was the favorite cruise whipping boy when they had a rash of jumpers and the mysterious death that they ended up settling just to make it go away.
Alaska cruise season will be here in a few months. Then they will all get the 'treatment' by the mass media as every little instance of a pint of oil leaking here, sewage being discharged 10 feet too close to the shore (as in 11.999 miles instead of 12 miles), etc., gets hyped.
I am booked on the Feb 20 sailing, which is now the first one after the repair. Has anyone heard how the repairs are going, and if the Feb 20 sailing is on for sure? I am ready to book my shore excursions, but I thought I would hold off until it looked like a definite thing.

Last I heard today it is still a go for Feb. 20. The Splendor is supposed to arrive in San Francisco on Jan. 22.
