LHP, yes you are correct its an either or situation. If they can only get the emergency generators running then they are probably using that power for the essentials - toilets and running water. Since the ship's engines run on electricity then I am sure the emergency generator would never have the power to put the ship under way and run the other facilities.
It must have been a major fire to put the main generators out of commission. I thought they had at least 2. I wonder it the power distribution network was damaged so that they couldn't run power from them even if they could start them back up.
I'm sure we will hear more as time goes on.

I am with LHP, as long as safety is not an issue, I wouldnt mind a bit being on that ship. I am of the believe that there is no such thing as a bad cruise. A slow ship to no where is right up my alley.
I also want to comment on the way the United States Military and Mexico responded to the call for help. Makes you proud and gives all aboard the stricken ship comfort. Yea for the USS Ronald Reagan
Wow, it's a shame that this happened. However, I do think Carnival did make all the right decisions. There are always a few people at least that aren't happy with the refund, but in this case, I think Carnival did the right thing. 100% refund, plus a voucher for a future cruise equal to the price paid on this cruise, if I understand it correctly.

The story has certainly had the news coverage. I've seen it on all the networks and cable news. My mom even calls me to tell me "one of those ships" you go on is stranded. I just tell her I know. I feel bad for everyone, the guests and the crew. Interesting list of food items they delivered.

The guests on this cruise will get at least mostly a free cruise in the future. Carnival stated that they would refund the total cost of this cruise to all passengers, and give them credit good for the total fare paid of this cruise towards a future cruise. However, like I stated earlier, there always seems to be some people that aren't happy with the compensation they get.
Like others stated, there are other expenses that have to be taken into consideration, not necessarily dealing with money, such as vacation time, travel time to the port, hotels, etc.

I saw in the other thread that they are hoping to tow the ship back to Long Beach, as opposed to Mexico. I think this may be a good decision if they're able to pull it off. However, is there a chance that they may be able to tow it to San Diego, since that's closer than Long Beach? I guess that depends if there are any docks available in San Diego.
