If my car breaks down, it is my car. I have nothing to do with a ships engine.
Getting in my car and having a wreck. Well last year we hit a deer. Insurance more than paid for the damage, and rental and other expenses. Insurance (from the deer strike) also paid to have our ac repaired when it when out last summer. Insurance felt that it was something they had missed (it was pointed out to them by the Honda dealer).
Things happen this is true. Carnival is doing a good job of trying, but IMHO they need to step up a little more.
There are a few way they could do this. More would be removing the "same value" price of the cruise. Give them the 7 day Mexico cruise when they want it. Give up upgraded cabin.
What would I do if I were on the cruise. Probably take the packaged offered. We would be out very little and end up having a few extra days with son #2. Others would not be so lucky.
I am trying to look at this from the point of view of the person to who this might have been a once in a lifetime vacation.
Dear all, Even for those who did not buy travel insurance, it seems they will have lucked out because Carnival in News reports appears to be refunding people their transportation costs (to and fro) and their entire cost of the cruise (whatever they paid for it) and a future cruise. I would hate to be stuck in an inside cabin with no lights, however. Another reason to go for a balcony or at least an outside with some light. I really feel for those people. I am sure that the ship library (if they have one) has not a book left. Hopefully, passengers will return and post some of the highlights (or low lights (no pun intended) on our site.
I saw on another news site that some people aren't going to cruise again, or at the very least, not with Carnival. I hate it when I hear stories like this, and it makes people not want to cruise again after one bad cruise.
In the news link that Dwayne linked to, they state that they are supposed to get to San Diego around midday tomorrow, so maybe by tomorrow night if any members were on that cruise, we'll start to see some posts.

Now that the ship is closer to the coast some folks are able to get cell phone signals. The reports I've read have been mostly good about the crew doing everything they can. Some reports have said the lines for food have been long. John Heald also finally posted on his blog. Just Google him and it will come up.
The Splendor is going about 6 knots with the US Coast Guard following. Look HERE.

I always take comments like "I will never cruise Carnival again" with a grain of salt.
The real "proof in the pudding" will be IF they turn down that future FREE CRUISE.
If they don't turn down the FREE CRUISE, then they should be called on the carpet for being dishonest......
