I've heard this ship is due for some redoing early in 2006. What all will they do to her? I heard verandas will be added. Also, what about our favorite Zenith. Isn't she do for some kind of update too?

one2fish,
welcome to Cruise-Chat.com. Here's the full press release Celebrity Cruises issued in July in regards to the changes planned for "Century": Quote:

We really liked the layout of the Century the way it was.The only problem we had was the last time we sailed on her she was very worn. Then the last time we sailed on the Horizon it was all but filthy. Very worn to say the least. I think that Celebrity let's all thier ship's go to long without refurbishing, at least some fresh carpet and new furniture and bedding once in a while. They are getting VERY EXPENSIVE compared to some other lines that are trying to improve,I think this will hurt them eventually.JMHO.Tom |
Never mind refurbishing...the latest word we recieved straight from a Celebrity officer-in-white-uniform was that our favorite ZENITH was being sold to some other cruise line. Couldn't get the date they are planning toward but we earlier did have a booking for next Nov. 3 out of Tampa on that nice smaller-type ship. Partly because of the rumors about Zenith being sold, and being a bit burned out on Caribbean islands, we cancelled that and are now booked on Island Princess (Whittier, AK to Vancouver)Aug.28. Thatwill be a first for us on Princess and we're crossing our fingers that it will be a good choice. We have definitely been spoiled on Celebrity ships. At least Island Princess is very new (launched 2003) We'll see......

Although change is inevitable, I also mourn the loss of the original layout of the Century - which is/was my favorite ship. My favorite cabins were the 7 balcony cabins along the aft end. Although they came with suite amenities they were actually standard cabins with balconies.....and very usable balconies too.
But I expect I will cruise on the "new" Century at some point, and perhaps I will fall in love with this ship all over again. |
Dave and Jim,
I was just on the Zenith Nov. 10-14 and had an excellent time. As you know, the Zenith is doing 4 and 5 night cruises to the Caribbean. We did a 4 night that was supposed to go to Key West and Cozumel. It was immediately before Coz re-opened after the hurricane, so instead of a day at sea and 2 days in port, we had 2 days at sea and a day in Grand Cayman. Even better for us! We couldn't stop in Key West because the ship needed the extra time to get down to Grand Cayman. Anyway, I believe the Century will be taking over the Zenith's 4 and 5 day itineraries next year. Thank goodness http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...icon_smile.gif for Zenith being sold.
I have never been so dissapointed about a ship in my life. I expected it to be alot nicer. It needed so many cosmetic touches to it to bring it up to par, and was about as plain a boat as you could ask for. But, the food was great, and it was cheap! Art |
I have to agrre, what Art said.
We were on the Zenith in february for a 14 day cruise, southern caribbea, and we also never have been so dissapointed. And for us the food was average, but not great, but okay it was cheep for such a long cruise with an excellent itinerary. But Iīve heard, that the Zenith had a refurbishment and is in a much better condition now. We saw her last month in Nassau and we saw some outside refurbishments, but donīt know what happend inside. We really like the layout of the Century. I thought the food was very good, and the service was excellent. We were on the Horizon and the dinning room service was the best we have had on any ship. The food was good. But the Horizon was very worn and filthy. The last time we went on the Century it was clean enough, but very, very worn and in need of refurbishing. I would like to know why Celebrity let's thier fleet get so run down before they refurbish them? The other cruise line's seem to do a much better job of maintaining thier ship's than Celebrity does. Why is this?It is not just my opinion , I have read many post's on this board and other's with the same opinion.Just curious as to what the other's think. Tom
