Tragedy struck today in Chile when a tour bus crashed and killed several passengers, which are believed to have been on Celebrity's Millenium. Read more about it here: Celebrity Announcement
I just heard on the radio. The station is saying that the driver was attempting to avoid a truck, and the bus plunged 300ft. I'm glad Celebrity is standing by the passengers and families. I hope they don't base any of their actions on the fact that this was independent tour.
We were in Arica in 2004. We were on the same tour as the people who were killed. I remember kissing the ground when we arrived back. It was a very scary trip. The roads were narrow and there were no guard rails. My thoughts and prayers are with the families.
A couple I know from a Roll-Call for our Hawaii cruise in may got the message yesterday from Celebrity, that the sister and brother in law died in the accident. They are now on their way to Chile to organize everything to bring their family members back to the US.
How terrible. I'm reading that the victims were members of the B'nai B'rith group and were all older. At least no children were involved, although it's awful to begin with. According to our local news (CT) two of the victims were from Stamford, CT. Their names have been released, so it seems that updates are coming out.
