I just came off a 2-night pre-inaugural sailing on Solstice.

It's a beautiful ship. Although large at 122,000 gross tons, the ship never seemed crowded, and was a very manageable size. I had a balcony room on Deck 6. The room was a good size but the balcony overlooked the lifeboats. I felt there was not as much storage space in the room as I had hoped, with a small closet and a few drawers. There is a large safe in the closet, large enough to hold my laptop computer. The bedding was very comfortable.

Solstice has several eating and drinking areas. The food in the main dining room was excellent at lunch and dinner, and the buffet area quite extensive. Much of the decor has a very futuristic look to it, including hanging chairs in Quesar. The main show room has excellent sight lines. Entertainment was terrific.

And yes, there is real grass on one of the upper decks. Some folks were playing something one time that I passed. It's a unique feature as ships go, and I will be curious to see if folks "use" the grass very often during their cruise. The glass blowing area has demos.

We had breakfast in one of the specialty restaurants, "Bistro on Five," which had nice crepes and pannini. A coffee bar serves specialty coffees and pastry.

There were lots of places to sit both inside and outside on deck. Deck chairs had thick cushions and were very comfortable. Inside seating had lots of couches and comfortable chairs, and many unexpected niches with seating in a more private area.

The Penthouse Suite is amazing. And huge. Enjoy!

Sandy,
How exciting! Any pictures? We can't wait, Feb 8th is not far away. Would you know anything about the Private Cabanas you can reserve and how that works?

I was with Sandy on the 2nt inaugural and echo her comments. The ship is amazing and Celebrity has really done it right with the Solstice. I too was most impressed with the spaciousness and all the areas where one could have some privacy.

The inaugural didn't charge for the cabanas. I'm sure information on that would be noted in the Celebrity Today.

Thanks, Sandy, for the great review. I know you and Cruise Fanatic had a great time exploring this awesome ship. I've yet to sail on Celebrity, but have had my eye on this ship with great interest.

I know y'all had a great time, even though it was short. It does sound like you found most of the nooks and crannies. A little over a year to go. Right now our cabin is 7196, I assume it won't change, but don't care if it does. We're just going for a week, so a small closet should hold my hubby's clothes. I'll have to leave mine in the suitcase I'm even more excited now. Just a little over a year to go. Janfred, you'll have to let me know how it went when you return. Are y'all doing the San Juan, St. Kitts, St. Maarten itinerary? I didn't care about the itinerary when I booked, just wanted to get a good rate on a great ship.

Penny,
I would be happy to tell you also about our trip on the Soltice. We did book the 7 day San Juan, St. Kitt etc. We are not Caribean cruisers, this is our first time in the Caribean and we booked it for the Ship not the itinerary. Maybe that's weird, I don't know..we don't even care if we don't get off the ship for the 7 days. I want to play Lawn bowling on the high seas and sleep in a private cabana after a nice cold frosty drink !! Only 75 more days.

Thank you so very much. I've been wanting to try Celebrity for a long time, but just couldn't justify the difference in prices. My fear now is, I'll like them better than Princess. If that happens, I will have to get a second job to pay the difference. Heck with the way things are going now, I could use a second job. I know, a job on board a cruise ship

janfred, I can relate. The last time we cruised to the Caribbean was in 2006 on Celebrity Infinity. We also went for the ship, and it got even better when family members joined us. The time prior to that was in 2001 on SS Norway -- solely for the ship in that case.

I am looking forward to hearing as much about this new ship. I enjoy smaller ships (about the size of Century), yet it sounds like Celebrity has managed to build larger ships that still feel cozy.

Thank you, Sandy and CF, for your comments.

Thanks Lisa, Penny and Sandy,
Reading comments from CF & Sandy got me excited and than my TA e-mail this to me today:

I was on the Solstice last week. If you aren't yet excited, you should be get there now! This ship is amazing! The cabins are wonderful. The bathrooms have a night light.... finally. The food was wonderful. My favorite was Murano and Bistro on 5. Both shows were great.

She also said our cruise price went down $80, I'll take it !! We are going to try the Aqua Class, will let veryone know ...
