The Horizon is being sold to another small cruise line.

cruiseshiplover,

the "Horizon" has been transfered to Island Cruises, a joint-venture of Celebrity parent company Royal Caribbean Cruises and First Choice, a large British travel operator. The ship is now called "Island Star" and sails in the Mediterranean during the northern summer and in South America during the southern summer.

Here's a picture provided by my Brazilian friend Daniel Carneiro:

The "Horizon" will continue to be featured at CruiseReviews.com as reviews of cruise lines' "former ships" are not being deleted so that people can still read about them.

Raoul, you gave me a good laugh this morning. Nancy and I were in Buzios, Brazil earlier this year when the Island Star sailed right off the beach. She came into view and I was going nuts trying to figure out what cruise line / ship she was. I tried to convince Nancy that it was a local ferry operation. I just didn't connect Island Cruises with South America. I got an e-amil from Nancy this morning that started with the comment "duh".

So I have to capitulate...."duh". Thanks for answering a lingering question.

The funnel is really the only thing that might tip one off. It is amazing what the lack of the "X" and the change in color scheme have done to camoflage the ship's past.

Well, I think that ships should be required to have their lineage documented somewhare on their haul to save those that think they know cruising the embarrassmentof trying to pretend that they know what is going on. Don't you? VBG.

Tom,

actually ships are supposed to have something like that: Ships nowadays are required to display their IMO number on the hull or superstructure. Even after a dozen name or ownership changes, the IMO number never changes. This is paticularly important when it comes to cargo ships which sometimes undergo a name change or two per year.
