We are doing a 10 night southern Caribben on Millenium in feb 2011. I love my camera and want to take hundreds of photos but I want to enjoy my time on the islands as well. Is it safe to leave it with excursion guides? or in bag on the beach?

SailMeAway, I can't speak for leaving the camera with the excursion guides, I would supposed it would be up to them, if they want that responsibility. But I CAN say, leaving your camera in the bag on the beach is a VERY bad idea. Unfortunately, if there are only two of you, it's almost impossible to both be in the water at the same time, and leave anything of value unattended. Your best bet would be to make sure you are in a group of people, one of whom would always be with the belongings.

There may also be lockers where you can store your equipment. We have been on many excursions and the guides have no problems with our leaving items in the ship/boat/bus. Most of the time someone is on board. That being said, we usually take the 35mm or the underwater camera with us and leave the digital in the cabin on board the ship. The underwater cameras we take are the disposable ones we purchase at Wal-Mart. If someone were to take it, we've only lost $10 and our pictures. So far, knock on wood, no one has bothered with it.
