Ft Lauderdale flight, Cruise out of Miami....where to stay

We are flying into Ft. Lauderdale, the night before our cruise, Feb 24, 2006. Can you tell me where is a good place to stay. Preferrably including a transfer to the hotel or to the Port.

Connie, it depends on your price range. Ft. lauderdale has a number of hotels very close to the port. Try the Holiday Inn Express (on the low end of the price spectrum) and the Marriott (right on the Inter Coastal and on the upper end of price) Other hotels in the area are the Renaissance (the Bimini Boatyard restaurant is close to it and wonderful) The Embassay Suites and Amerisuites (my least favorite).

Depending on how many of you there are, a taxi from any of these hotels to the port in Miami will cost about $80 each way (including tip) and is probably the least hassle. It takes about 45 minutes or so to get to the port. Shuper Shuttle and other shuttle operators can take you, but you have to have advanced reservations and a taxi might be more efficient given the small savings if you use a shuttle if there are two or more of you..

We always fly into Ft. Lauderdale and stay at a hotel that offers a free shuttle service to and from the Ft. Lauderdale airport. Since we also purchase the round trip transfers from our travel agent, we just get up the morning of our cruise and take the free shuttle back to the airport to pick up our shuttle that takes us directly to the port of Miami. We have done this 3 times now, and it has worked out perfectly for us every time. This time we are staying at the Comfort Suites Airport & cruise port at the rate of 115.00 for the night. This rate was unbeatable, however we are close to the airport this time, and not the beach. I booked it on http://www.hotels.com
