Hotel in Fort Lauderdale

The last time my husband & I went cruising we stayed in Fort Lauderdale at the Best Western along the causeway. It was a dump. Does anyone know the name of the hotel across the road from the Best Western and if it is okay? Wish I had written down the name of it. We went for a walk around the premises and it looked nice.

i am not sure of the hotel you are seeking; however, i'd like to recommend the Holiday Inn Beach hotel (corner of sunrise & A1A). i have stayed there at least 5 times. price is usually low 100s, decent restaurant, nice pool, across from beach and in walking distance to some restaurants, movies, bar, etc. its not the 4 seasons, but i am picky and keep going back, so they're doing something right.

I should have said that we stayed at the Oceanside Best Western. There was such mold & dust in the room that I was totally congested and couldn't sleep. My husband's white socks were black from walking on the carpet. Behind the bed, it looked as if it had never been vacuumed. They refused to give us another room. I did fill a complaint form and they really didn't care when I handed it in. Subsequent calls to Best Western only garnered an apology.

My husband & I are sailing from Ft. Lauderdale in October. I tried to reserve at the Holiday Inn Express Convention Center/Cruise Port,which is across the street from the pier, but I am told that there are no rooms available for that time... amazing at 10 months out. Anyway, I booked at Ramada Airport. They have shuttle from/to airport and cruise pier. We're paying $99/night. I don't know how it will be - we've never sailed from the East Coast before. Sorry to hear your Best Western experience was so bad. I tend to use them alot in our travels, and have never been disappointed. I guess that that's bound to happen though, with so many hotels in the franchise - there has to be at least one bad apple in the basket. Here's hoping that the Ramada is up to par.

The Holiday Inn Express in Ft. Lauderdale is actually on 17th Street and not within walking distance of the port. I stayed there last year and would not recommend it. One couple (a jewelry sales team) was held up at gun point in the parking lot and had over $60,000 worth of merchandise stolen from them the night I stayed there. My telephone did not work and the air conditioning was marginal, at best. The breakfast was disgusting and the room not much better......Not that I have an opinion, or anything. Look, it takes a lot to get to me, the Holiday Inn Express in Ft. Lauderdale did.

Go for anything other than this property.

For my family there is no better fine inexpensive place to stay in Fort Lauderdale than the Tropi Rock. The owners will make you feel like you are visiting relatives. We will be there again in April.

Enjoy the Zuiderdam. My family refers to this ship as our home away from home. Lots of participation events on this wonderful ship.

Tom - - your report makes me very happy that we are not able to book there. Do you know anything about the Ramada/Airport? We are trying to decide if we will need a car for the two days we're in Ft. Lauderdale. Do you know how easy or hard it is to get around the town?
