For the sake of simplicity, we always take a taxi from the airport to downtown Miami. I remember the fare was in the mid 30's. We usually take a taxi from downtown to the port. Last june, we stayed at the holiday inn port of miami, and we actually walked from the hotel to the cruise ship. We only had 1 rolling bag each, so it wasn't too bag. The walk is not far, up and over a bridge, then down to the terminal. That next month we were going to the Galapagos Islands, then down to Peru to hike the Inca Trail. My husband said it was training, to walk from the hotel to the ship. It was cool walking over the bridge, it was a great view. Anyways, it might be farther if your ship is at the end of the port, but we could see that the Freedom was the first ship we would come to. Good luck. Lil' Lori

Lori-

Now do not go giving the impression that this is a walkable distance. With just rolling bag each, sure, its doable. But most people have more luggage and the actual distance is about a mile as can be seen in this sat pic The Holiday Inn is the second building on the left side of Biscayne Blvd south of the Port blvd bridge (the building with the white roof). So to get to the first of the ships is at least a mile worth of walking. If you are on carnival... good luck...

A taxi from the airport and another taxi from the Hotel. The Hotel has a steady stream of cabs coming and going so its easy to get one. The cost from the hotel to the ship is about $15 (there is a port entrance charge) I think the airport run is in the low 20 dollars range but its been a couple of years...

I hope the Holiday Inn Airport is quieter than the Days Inn airport. I listened to planes constantly taking off. The Day's Inn was so noisy it just wasn't worth staying in a cheaper hotel with free transfer. (Which by the way the Day's Inn crammed about 13 people into a 10 person van to go to the pier.) I would rather pay taxis and stay at the Holiday Inn Port of Miami. The location is great and with the BaySide Market right across the street there is plenty to do for an enjoyable evening. JMHO

Look at this:

That's your hotel.

It's facing the BAYFRONT PARK incl. BAYSIDE MARKET (Walking distance from hotel 30 seconds to 1.30 minute - depends to your walking speed!).

Here you see the BAYSIDE MARKET and you hotel right at the background.

And if you make now a 180-turn you see this picture which was taken from the BAYSIDE MARKET:

Now you can imagine how close the port is to the Holiday Inn Port of Miami Hotel.

Regards,
HeinBloed

Yes, location wise it seems close to the hotel. But if you want to be dragging your luggage across traffic, over a bridge and to the ships (at least a mile to the first ship) in 90 degree heat with 90% humidity, be my guest.

I would not recommend it to anyone. IF you are like Lil Lori and are packed in one roller bag, its a viable option. If you have many bags, get a cab. Unless you are very used to hot, muggy weather, you are going to need a shower as soon as you board. Its not worth the $20 you would save in my book. (And that is with a generous tip)
