Victory Cruise! Cheap hotel but safe in Miami?

Hi All!

This is my first time going to Miami and I was wondering if anyone recommends a cheap, safe and conveniently nearby hotel near the port?

Plus, anyone else going? Myself and 3 others are going-perhaps a shared excursion??

Oops, forgot to say when we're going which is December 10-17! I've been on a carnival cruise before and can't wait to go on this one!

Look under Port Hotels and transfer thread. You will find a lot of suggestions. The one I always stay at is Holiday Inn Port of Miami. But it looks like it doesn't have availability the night of Dec 9th. Depending what your definition of cheap is you might find something, but also consider if there are restaurants and entertainment around it. If you pick something cheap but nothings around it you will spend extra money on taxis to go somewhere.
