Ft. Lauderdale Hotel Review

Flying into Ft. Lauderdale, cruise out of Miami. Looking for a hotel for one night prior to cruise. Has anyone stayed at the Hampton Inn Fort Lauderdale Airport North (2301 SW 12th Ave)? If so, how was your stay? Any restaurants nearby (that kids would like)? I like the fact that they provide free shuttle service from airport to hotel and back to airport (to catch cruise transfer). This hotel also offers a free breakfast. Will be traveling with 11 people-4 are children, so the pool is a must. Didn't want to spend much for one night, but it has to be clean/decent. I appreciate anyone who can provide some insight on this hotel that would be helpful (I’ve never been to Ft. Lauderdale). Thanks!

This is not too far from the airport but is not in the normal landing pattern, so it shouldn't be too noisy. Without a car, it would be a pretty good hike to a restaurant the kids might like. There are a couple over by the Riverland Shopping Center, but that would be a couple of miles away. Lester's diner is on State Road 84, it's reasonably priced and good food, but that would be about 5 miles from where you are staying. You may want to check into the Tropi Rock, it's close to the beach with much more around for the kids to enjoy. (www.tropirock.com) The Hampton is clean and decent, but there's not much around without transportation. Enjoy your cruise!!
