The Tropirock in Ft. Lauderdale is a nice place to stay, they don't offer shuttle service, but they're a block off the beach and close to many restaurants in walking distance. Cab fare should not be very high since they are close to the airport as well. I rent a car because I am from Lauderdale and like touring my old stomping grounds, plus I like the convenience. ChucksOk likes Embassy Suites on 17th Street Causeway. We're staying at the Radisson on 17th treet Causeway. According to ChucksOK, the old Pier 66 has gone down, but that used to be a great place to stay. They have a restaurant/bar on the top of the tower that rotates overlooking the intracoastal. The Yankee Clipper is right on the beach and was a fun place to stay. Anyway, Nancy is correct, the local bus system is good and the taxi's are not too outrageous. Have a wonderful time!!
