Ft. Lauderdale Vs. Miami

Flying into Ft. Lauderdale, cruise is out of Miami. Need a clean/nice/decent not too expensive hotel for one night precruise. Is it better to stay in Ft. Lauderdale and then transfer in the morning, or transfer straight to a Miami hotel from airport? We've never been to either city. Trying to figure out if one would be cheaper to do than the other. Still need to transfer to Miami either way. Thoughts? Thank you!

If budget is a primary concern, then I would suggest Amerisuites on 17th in Ft. Lauderdale. You can get parents and kids into one suite and it includes breakfast and is not as expensive as Embassey Suites right across the street.

On our last stay at the Amerisuites, we took a taxi to Miami to pick up a cruise for $80. That is only $20 per person (there were four of us) and I believe that was the most economical way to do it; not to mention being the most painless way. If I remember, you have a bunch of kids with you. I would certainly not rule out this option.

To add to Tom's suggestion. The Amerisuites has complimentary shuttle service to the hotel from the airport - so that will add to the savings.

We have stayed at AmeriSuites in Orlando one night precruise, and that was great! They did have the free airport shuttle service and free breakfast included.
Now how about any hotels on or close to the beach? Since this will be Ft. Lauderdale. Of course it is only for one night, and we don't want to pay a small fortune, but definitely need clean and decent. I do like the free shuttle service from airport though.
Anybody have any thoughts? Thanks again!
