My husband and I along with another couple are escaping our children for the 5 night western caribbean cruise on the Enchantment of the Seas in October. We booked through AAA and was told we would have to book transfers from Fort Lauderdale airport @ $20pp round trip. The port isn't that far away. Wouldn't a taxi ride be less expensive?

Yes grab a taxi, the problem with purchasing the transfers is you have to wait until the shuttle fills up, with a taxi, one cost per taxi, not per person. Will be a lot cheaper to go from FLL aiport to FLL port.

Take the taxi. I used to live there and it is much more convenient to take a taxi. Not only do you have to wait until the shuttle fills up but then you arrive at the ship with a BUSLOAD of people. (Think long lines). If you want to stop and pick up some wine have the taxi turn left of of the 17th Street causeway onto Cordoba Road. Turn into the little shopping center on the right and in the bank of stores facing Cordoba road is a Liquor store. Put it into your to be checked luggage. It is a little cheaper than the one on the left.

Would you call ahead to have a cab waiting or are there plenty of cabs waiting at the airport?

NO, don't worry about it.. there is a constant flow of taxi's.. you tell the attendant how much luggage and people you have, and he will get you a correctly sized taxi too.. (Like a Van or SUV)

Came back from HAL cruise last week. It was $15. for a taxi from ship to airport in FLL. There were plenty of taxis around and we had our own private ride. There was no waiting and I couldn't believe how quickly we got to the airport. Our driver got a big tip.

We heard the announcement at 9:30 to leave the ship and by 10 we had left the ship, checked through customs, found our luggage and had checked in at the airport. We had a 12:45 flight.

Catiemor- I take it you put your luggage outside of your cabin and waited for your specific "color" to be called?

Even if the taxi did cost more, which it don't, it's a better way to go. You'll get to the port quicker.

TAXI is the only way to go in most ports!

Faster and cheaper. Your luggage is with you all the way.
