Is it better to purchase the transfers back to the airport if there are 14 of us traveling together or to take water taxis or other means of transport? Would it be less expensive to take taxis since there are several of us and the 30.00 each(RCCL Transfer) to get 10 miles to the airport is expensive.

Hi acbat,
you can take the Alilaguna Airport boat. It starts at Stazione Marittima and costs € 13 per person.

The Venice airport bus is cheaper: only three Euros. Look here:
