Orlando is usually the airport used for Port Canaveral cruises, and you're right, it's about 45-50 minutes from the port. Transportation can be booked through the cruise line if you like, or you can work with a number of shuttle companies. Mears Transportation is the main bus transport game in town. There are lots of hotels, fitting many budgets,near the airport if you don't want the expense (and temptation) of staying near any of the theme parks. Many of the airport-area hotels have complimentary shuttles to the airport, which can connect you the next day to your transfer to the cruise.
