does anyone know how far are the ports from the cities? what ways of transportation are the best there? can a book an excursion witht a local provider? what are the prices for those?

The cruiseport of Venice is near the Piazzale Roma and the Canal Grande. Look here:

On the left side there is the Stazione Marittima (Cruise Terminal). You can take the shuttle to the Piazzale Roma. FRom there you have some footsteps to the Canal Grande. There take the vaporetto line 1 (uno) to San Marco.

From the cruise center to the Canal Grande (Piazzale Roma) with the shuttle bus about five minutes. From there you can walk to the Piazza S. Marco (about twenty minutes) or go by water bus (vaporetto): about one hour.
