My boyfriend and i were originally going to drive overnight 15 hours to miami and get there right about the time we would be aloud to board. However, we have decided that it will be much easier to drive down the day before and get a hotel. that way we can get rested before the cruise and be sure to get to the pier on time. does anyone know of any decent (reasonably priced) hotels near the pier? we don't want to go overboard since we would like to save as much money as possible to spend on the actual cruise!! thank you.
The Holiday Inn Port of Miami. It is right across the street from Bayside Market. Bayside has restaurants like Hard Rock, Bubba Gumps, Hooters, Chili's, and more. They have unique shopping and entertainment. It is a clean safe hotel. I usually pay around $100.
It is only about a mile or so to the pier. If your hotel room is on the side facing the pier you will be able to see the ships the morning of the cruise from your room.
You could also try this site, its a park/sleep and cruise site that gives you the hotels that allows you to leave your car parked in their parking lot at no charge while you are cruising if you stay with them for the night. http://www.parksleepfly.com/cruiseport_hotels/index.php
It's not a bad deal, some hotels are around $110.00/night with the park package, the parking at the port is $12.00/day or $84.00 for the week.
Can you tell me how you manage to get the H.I. rooms for about $100? I have 2 rooms booked and am paying over $200 per room, (that is with the tax included). I booked directly through them on the phone so that I could cancel and get my $ back if for some reason our trip fell through. It was a bit more than all of the other ways to book but if you don't book directly with them, you lose EVERYTHING.
A lot of people on the CC board recommend the Intcontinental acrss from Bayside ....they book through Priceline or Hotwire.com but you need to check with www.biddingfortravel.com to see what hotel the star rating gets you.
When you book with those internet place they don't tell you the hotel till you book it. They are non refundable so be sure to book 4 star properties

The last time I stayed at HI was Feb 1, of this year. I paid around $100. Other times I have stayed there have been in the months of Nov and Dec. Depending what time of year, and if some big event is going on in town will affect the price. For instance next Feb the Super Bowl is in town and I'm sure the prices will be ridiculous. Perhaps the popularity of this hotel's location has driven prices higher. I don't know when you are sailing. So I just tried several dates on their website www.6c.com . Several of the dates I tried had no availability. One date I tried in October had prices starting at $136.78 a night. They have several rate plans. Advance purchase is cheapest and is non-refundable, other rate plans have different restrictions or may involve a penalty, but not the full rate. If you took out travel insurance and had to cancel for a covered reason, then you would be re-imbursed for penalty.
