Sailor John - - "reasonable priced" is relative in the Ft Lauderdale / Miami area; so do be aware that prices may seem high. It is very definitely a good idea to plan on coming in a day early - especially flying in the winter. There are too many things that can delay or postpone your flight in January. I am staying at the Sleep Inn in Dania - not close to the port, but they offer transfers from the airport and to the port - with free breakfast thrown in. When looking for a hotel, I go to one of the travel websites (think Travelocity or Hotels.com), see what's there, then check the hotel websites. I learned from the Choice Hotels website that they offer a senior ++ rate - but only by calling to make the reservation... Note that the closer to the port, the higher the rates. Good luck.

Hi sailor john, welcome to Cruise-Chat. During the heighth of the season, a really good hotel in Ft. Lauderdale is going to run between $190-300/night. We've stayed at quite a few that are near the port. Anything on 17th street causeway will be near the port. We've stayed at the Hyatt Pier 66 and the Renaissance, both are nice properties, but not inexpensive (think $189/night). There is an Embassy Suites that has received very high recommendations. Anything located on A1A will be by Ft. Lauderdale beach, which is between 2-5 miles from the port. We've stayed at the Sea Club and the TropiRock, which you will need transportation to the port, but the charge for a night was under $100. They are both old motels, but clean. The Sea Club has larger rooms and is right across from the ocean. The Sheraton Yankee Clipper is also a nice property. The Sleep Inn in Dania has received some great reviews. If you stay at the Renaissance or the Hyatt Pier 66, be sure to get a water taxi ticket. It was $10/pp and you can get on/off as many times as you wish. It's the best way to see Ft. Lauderdale. Take the water taxi all the way to the end for some great drinks/foods. Charlie's Crab and Shooters are fantastic. The Pier 66 Bar and Grill is also great, you can get a table right on the intracoastal. You can also order one entree and split it with at least one other person, if not two. The Sea Watch is a great place to eat dinner, too. It's right on the ocean, but you would need transportation to get there. In Dania, Jackson's Ice Cream Parlor is a great spot to get a sundae. It's in a store front on US1, and it's been there for years and years. They also have pretty good burgers. But make sure you save room for a sundae. Hope you have a marvelous cruise!

ft lauderdale hotels
The Marriott is a lovely hotel, well worth the cost. Their hotel van
will take you to the pier; sign up when you check in. Ask for a room
overlooking the Intercoastal Waterway; it's fun to watch all the boats
go by. You can take the waterbus from the hotel to a number of
restaurants and walk around Ft. Lauderdale or the beach area. Lots more
to do, even for one night.
