Hi Livvy,
We haven't been on our cruise yet - we go on the 12th May. Someone answered my post and said to take a taxi but didn't tell me how much it would cost.
I put up the same query on Virtual tourist and go these answers:
Re: Getting from Piazzale Roma to where to Cruise ships depart from? How to? and How Much?

Cruise docks are not so far.... MAYBE you can drive there, drop luggages, children and the other adult, drive back to Piazzale Roma and walk again to the docks...
Take a look here

I agree with Francesco, most probably you may even drive directely to the ship, although it is a restricted area, but when you have a ticket for the ship it should be OK. Distance to P.Roma is not more than 500 meters anyway, but rough surface, cobbled stones etc. not suitable for rolling luggage !
Just did it in March. We took a bus and got lost. We asked a taxi driver and he wanted 35 euros to go 5 minutes. Another taxi driver wanted 15 euros from P.Roma to the ship. Finally a very kind gentleman, Mr. Del Gado, gave us a ride in his car.
I suggest you get ripped off and take the taxi from P.Roma to avoid the frustration of getting lost. Offer them less and see what they will settle for. Watch out for the Vaporatti ticket sellers at the P.Roma. The deliberately give you the wrong (tourista) change. I caught them after I left, came back in an hour, loudly proclaimed there was a mistake and was refunded 10 euros. (Obviously he had a guilty conscience.) Good Luck...
Hope this helps Livvy, not sure what we will do. Maybe asked the car hire compant to drop us off ot bite the bullet and take a taxi!
Cheers
Miss Maris
