We do not want to use the transfers provided by Princess as we will be in Rome prior and don't want to make our way back to the airport and wait around for a tour bus.....any suggestions on how to get to Civitavecchia more reasonably than taking a taxi or limo? These seem to be very expensive options - 2 adults - 2 suitcases travelling??

Just take the train.

There is a free shuttle bus between port entrance and ship.

Walking distance between Port Entrance and Station about 10 minutes. Light rise to the station. But if you have trolleys still possible. Train need abt. 1 hrs - 1.15 hrs depending where you want to get off.

1-day-pass (BIRG-Ticket Zone D/4) = 7 EUR incl. free public transport in Rome. The day you are spending in Rome without Civitavecchia-transfer is BIG-Ticket = 4 EUR.

Poster above is correct train is cheapest way to go. Be aware that it can be very crowded so plan for that. Also keep you eyes on bags pulling out of Rome Termini the hop on hop off train rip off your case artists are still around. You could also ask on this or cruise critic list and share a driver if you got 4-6-8 people the cost would be the same.

Hi nco4242, Are you saying you can actually get a taxi for 4, 6, 8 people that could handle all that luggage? I thought the taxis were small.

max. 5 persons in a FIAT MUTIPLA!

One taxi from Civitavechhia to Rome is about 100 EUR. Even with 8 you cannot beat the price of the train 8*7 = 56 EUR.

As some trains starts in Civitavecchia it's not so crowd as described!

Albertagirl, We will also be on this cruise. We are staying one night in Rome and taking the train to Civitavecchia at noon on the 5th. We are also taking the train from the airport into Rome. If you go to cruise critic roll calls and find our cruise you might find someone to share a taxie with you. You can also go to the Europe board and there is a wealth of info on taking the train. It is a much discussed topic. Our roll call will be getting together for dinner or lunch one of the first days of the cruise so if you care to join us just get on our thread. If you have any questions just let me know.
