What are the issues of finding things open to see and visit on Sunday when the cruise ship comes into Villafranche? Are taxis and bus and trains normally operational on Sunday so we can travel on our own without a tour?

Taxis are not really all that common in that port, because most of the French drivers could care less about cruise passengers. Buses and trains run on Sundays, but they run their Sunday schedules. Cafes and restaurants are generally open, but most decent stores are closed. The big exceptions are the village of Eze and St Paul de Vence where just about everything is open on Sundays.
