Under no circumstances book a car on the internet with Italian Services for transpotation from Rome to CIV. They have a great website and low prices BUT they are not properly licensed to enter the port. We ended up in the police station for 2 1/2 hours and almost missed the ship. They promised a refund but have not come through.

I don't understand. Why would they have needed to enter the port? They should have dropped you off at the entrance of the port and you should have gotten onto the port shuttle buses (yes they take your luggage on the bus) with everyone else? And why did the police detain you? Clearly you did not do the driving?

But your point is well taken...check to make sure you are traveling with a reputable and licensed company.

Well, at least the day we embarked, there were no buses that we were aware of. All the taxis seemed to be properly licensed and we tried to switch over to one leaving the Port; however, the police would not allow it. The police detained us as "witnesses to a crime."
