Two Canadian couples are traveling to St. Petersburg on Celebrity, Century this summer. We want to do our own thing on land. We are having trouble finding out visa information that will enable us to do our own touring. We do not want to take the ship tours. We want to experience the evening in St. Petersburg, as well as, the day. We are in port for 2 days. How do we go about finding out about private tours if this even possible. Please help.

There is a tour office called Red October that offers personal tours. They handle the visas and everything else you need. They are not cheap. Google Red October and you will get the US office.

We used DenRus when we were there in 2006. We had a english speaking guide and driver to ourselves. We saw more in 2 days then we would have, if we took the ships tours. It was wonderful and worth every cent. We were picked up at 8am and returned at 6pm for the 2days we were there. We by passed lines of people and went in side doors. Our guide was unbelivable. I highly recommend them. The ship was used to them and we had a meeting place on board for all passengers going with DenRus. Would love to do it all over again. http://bestsmileys.com/thumbs/7.gif

We used Alla to book but Viktoria was our guide. She was great, sweet, and will talk about anything you want. Took us to real Russian restaurants, markets, and shows. Figure out what you want to see and when. There is a lot to see but beware of planning too much in any day.
