We're taking a cruise May 15 on Celebrity's Millenium, 12 nights, Barcelona to Venice. Will be arriving a couple of days early in Barcelona. Any suggestions for hotels in the moderate price range, central to "what's happening" will be appreciated. Any suggestions for restaurants and activities? Thanks.

I really liked the Claris Hotel for a couple of reasons. First, it is out of the tourist crush that you will experience if you stay in the Las Ramblas / Gothic districts, yet you can walk to everywhere in Barcelona. Also, the rooms were generous in size and the included breakfast was superb. Plus, there is a Starbucks only a couple of blocks away.

If you don't mind being in the midst of things, we stayed at the Royal Hotel Barcelona on Las Ramblas for a few days post cruise in June and can recommend it highly. It is a great value, centrally located and rooms and staff were both quite nice.

As for restaurants, definitely try Ciudad Condal on Rambla de Catalunya if you are looking for a great tapas restaurant. Reasonable rates, excellent food and even better ambiance. Quite popular with the residents and is within walking distance of the hotel where we stayed.
