I have managed to find private tours in Athens, Kusadasi and Rhodes for our 12 day Grand Princess cruise in Sept. but not for Corfu, Katakolon (Olympia), Mykonos and Santorini. We are a group of 12 which may be difficult to manage boarding buses together. Does anyone have suggestions for private tours from these ports or advice on planning itineraries. Thanks for any help.

Calesso, do not book a private tour of Santorini. The beauty of the island can be best viewed by yourself with a good map. You will probably tender into Old Fira. Take a donkey ride up to the top of the port and it is a short walk to Spiridakos Cars and Cruises. We love to rent a car and travel around by ourselves. You are on your own schedule and you can see parts of the island that a normal excursion will never see. You can drive north to Oia (the O is silent) and travel all the way down to the Red/White beaches and Perivolos. You can tour great wineries or just soak in the beautiful Greecian sun on a myriad of sometimes uninhabited beaches. It is by far our favorite port in the world and we like to make the most of it.

Thanks for the reply, I'll take your advise on Santorini. Would you say the same for Mykonos and Rhodes?

I am that way about all of Greece, especially Mykanos and Santorini. I am not trying to persuade you not to take an organized tour for your first visit to the area but, being somewhat of a veteran, I have found that doing my own adventuring has given me my most profound sense of an island's beauty. Sometime's my wife and I will be travelling along and just come upon a scene so breathtaking that I have to photograph it to immortalize the image. Later, while at dinner with others, I will show the photos. It gives me such a rush when they invariably say, "Wow. We never saw that", and my favorite, "(Insert husband's name), why didn't you think of that?"
