Hello. We were in Lisbon last summer (not on a cruise but rented an apartment for a week). How much time do you have? The trains are very good and can take you to Cascais and Estoril (about a 25 minute ride- you can walk between the two). I'm not sure where your ship will dock but the taxis were very good and can easily take you to the train station (its not the main station but the other one). We enjoyed St Georges Castle (saw a fado at a small cafe there and it was the highlight of the trip). We weren't big on Lisbon itself. We spent some time in the main squares...tip- don't eat outside. We had small children approaching our tables begging throughout our meals. We were with our two young children who could not understand what was going on. We were there long enough to see the same kids being sent by their parents through tourist crowds to beg all around town. Also, lots of street performers during dinner passing by with cups/ hats for donations. It wasn't what we expected. Our kids (they are young) enjoyed the street performers but I'm guessing your older children will not be so amused. Beach towns were good- we saw the warm ups for the World Sailing Championships...you can kayak around...great cafes/ shops in the beach areas (Estoril/ Cascais). Best of luck!!
