I'll be traveling by train to Rome next Sunday, the 24th. My husband and I want to visit St. Peter's and see the sights in Rome too. Is it best to get off the train at St. Peter's and then make our way into Rome or vice versa. Might there be trouble getting into St. Peter's on a holy day? I've heard there's an English speaking tour at 2pm but I don't know if that runs on Sunday's as well. Any advice would be great!

Jennie-

The train from Civ does not stop near St Peter's. It goes to the Termini Station. From there you can take the Metro (subway) out to the Vatican stop and walk there. I can't tell you St Peter's schedule, but I'm sure its available online.

St. Peter's basilica will be open on Sunday from 7am-7pm local time. If mass is in progress, reverence is expected. Feel free to attend mass and receive the eucharist but be prepared for a free-for-all. (you will see what I mean) Unfortunately, the Vatican museums and the Sistine Chapel will be closed on the 24th of this month.
