Some friends just returned from Europe and told us that all the public restrooms in the countries they visited required a payment of 1 or 2 euros. Is that the case in France, Italy, Greece and Turkey? We are taking a Med. cruise in August and need to know if I need a pocketfull of euros.
Hi Iworthalot, welcome to cruise-chat. Yep, you'll need some Euros. The trend in Europe is pay pottys. They are self cleaning, amazing little booths. They tried them in NYC some years back but vandalism created so much add'l cost they weren't self sustaining and the program failed. Have a great cruise!
It seems to me that someone with the screen name "Iworthalot" wouldn't mind parting with so little. Most euro restrooms are kept relatively clean so, for the foreign traveller, it's money well spent.
Public restrooms are anywhere from .50 euro to 1-2 euro. If you find yourself with no change (that will be difficult lol) you can also find a McDonalds which are mostly unlocked/free
I was watching a travel show - the person traveling in Europe mentioned the public pay toilet situation. His solution to that issue was to stop in a cafe for a coffee/soda/drink and use the facilities in the cafe. His theory was that if he had to pay, he'd pay for something he could enjoy..
