We'll be making the Baltic cruise in June/July '07, and I am strongly interested in the shore excursion to Stutthof Concentration Camp outside of Gdansk, Poland. Has anyone made this side trip and did you feel it was worthwhile and interesting? It seems to me that it would be a very moving experience to view such an historic landmark. All comments welcomed! Thank you.

Hello LJG:

we went this summer to Gdynia/Gdansk and we hired a personal guide which was very reasonable. She was an official approved guide and collected us with her private car at the pier and asked us for our individual interests. As she learned that we are interested very much in Polish history like Solidarnocz-movement etc. she just make proposals during the ride from Gdynia to Gdansk and made a perfect taylor-made excursion for us. Her English is perfect.

If you want her contact information please send me a PM. I am sure she can arrange everything for you - and as told we paid less than the shore excursion rates onboard. The best: she negotiated for us in true Polish non-tourists stores and so we made good bargains as she appeared as Polish local and got local prices.

Happy Holidays + Happy New Year + Happy Cruising

Can't see a way to send you a PM. I'd really like contact info for your guide, as we will be in Gdynia on 5 September and the ship's excursions don't sound too enticing. Please email me at norwat at sandbenders dot demon dot co dot uk.
