I understand it is possible to travel by train from Katakolon to Olympia and return. Katakolon isnt listed in the Greek railway timetable. Has anyone any suggestions. Visitng mid October

I would not bother with any railway in Greece unless you are going a much longer distance. You are better off renting a small car and drive yourself there, it's only about 50 km away and the drive alone is worth it. If it was a shorter trip i would have said rent a vespa and do the same. Of course, if the ship has the excursion cheaper than the car rental, take it. I have not been to Katakolon so I don't know how commercialized it is, but most Greek ports will have long stretches of shops where you can rent motorcycles, mopeds (vespas) and vehicles.

i would agree with everything said by 1Sgt. In addition, although I have heard the rumor of this railroad connection I am somewhat skeptical since the Olympia site is really "out in the sticks." Unless you get confirmation from somebody who has done this train trip I would consider other proved alternatives such as a tour or renting a car (not easy to do in Katakolon).
